ISLAMIC, Anatolia & al-Jazira (Post-Seljuk). Zangids (al-Mawsil). Nasir al-Din Mahmud, AH 616-631 / AD 1219-1234. Dirham (Bronze, 32 mm, 14.49 g, 2 h), Mawsil, AH 620 = AH 1224/5. Bare head with dishevelled hair facing slightly to left; above, two winged figures; in field to left and right, 'duriba bi'l Mawsil sana ishrin wa sittami'a' in Kufic. Rev. in inner field, 'La ilaha'illa Allah Muhammad / Rasul Allah al-Nasir / li-din Allah Amir al-Mu'/minin 'Uddat al-Dunya wa al-Din Abu Nasr Muhammad; around, 'Nasir-al Din / al-Malik al-Ashraf al-Malik al-Kamil Atabeg Mahmud'; all in Kufic. Spengler & Sayles 66. Rare and in exceptional condition for the issue. Traces of overstriking and with a flan crack, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
